Jason is home. I missed him quite alot over the holiday. I know he would have been perfectly mortified if I had forced him to spend T-day with my parents & grandparents. Nevertheless, it was a somewhat lonely weekend in Idaho.
He brought home rolls and rolls of film from this trip, including some spectacular shots of the city. The scanner will get hooked up this weekend, god (and parallel ports) willing. A few of the new pictures will be posted to his website, I imagine. I need to read up on photography, or image composition, because my photos just don't turn out as well....
Hearing stories of San Francisco makes me want to take a trip. But we have no plans to leave Phoenix for at least the next month. I did, however, schedule New Year's Eve in San Diego yesterday. Dancing, general merriment, and a hell of a lot of Phoenicians, I'm guessing. Can't wait.

Yikes, where have I been....Erasure has a new album! Currently only an import in the US, of course. Now the dilemma: shell out the bucks for the import, or wait patiently for the US release?
Oh, hey. Paul Oakenfold has a new album as well. No question about this one though....Click! (I need to stay away from Amazon....)

Pray, Brian, what's on your little list for Christmas? We're dying to know? Mind that international shipping.... Can I fax you something?

You've been warned. Christmas cards this year may be from MikWright. Hysterical. Gay. Hysterical. (Requires Flash.)

Shiny new electronic toy tonight.... new Sony Minidisc player. I got tired of dealing with my little MP3 player. Perhaps having good music again will motivate me to get back to the gym. Perhaps. (Anyone wanna buy a Rio 300?)
And some fun pictures. Whee.

We're closer to having a new President, such as he is. I'm not looking forward to being embarassed by our leader for another four years. But, on the bright side, we get a new bundle of Bushisms to laugh about.
Hopefully this one won't start a war, just because he can.

It sounds like we are headed to San Diego for New Year's Eve this year. Whohoo. Our millennium New Year was fun, particularly watching the first sunrise of 2000 from above the Golden Gate Bridge. Hopefully a San Diego New Year will be even crazier.

Hello from Idaho. Multiple Thanksgiving dinners, a few days with the family.... I'm none the worse for wear, so far. Back in Boise tonight staying with Rob. It's been a fairly low key day so far. I'm sure there will be some trouble later when we head out for a few beers. Home tomorrow at the ungodly hour of 7am. Yeesh.

Okay. I can't postpone the inevitable. I'm off to Idaho. Assuming, of course, the plane is on time. Pray for me.
Yay. One positive thing about this trip: I get to go out in Boise tonight with a few friends. Should be a fun evening.
Oh, hey! I get to take my digital camera with me to Idaho. Soon I'll be able to bore you with pictures of my family....
Working at home today. I have a few dreaded tasks at work that I just can't seem to bring myself to do while I'm at the office. So forcing myself to sit in front of the computer at home will hopefully encourage me to get them done faster.
Jason suggested that I reward myself with a treat when I get one of the dreaded tasks done. Pavlovian encouragement. A pot of coffee and a CD on the stereo at home is often encouragement enough....
I want a job where I can just tinker with computers all day. I think I'm a programmer at heart.

Cool. Matt Consola, popular DJ from San Francisco, will be spinning at Boom on Wednesday. Too bad I'll be on a plane to Idaho.
Blah. Cranky yesterday, for no good reason. Perhaps I was just tired. Hopefully today will be better.
Dinner tonight at Crew in Scottsdale, the sister restaurant to Cafe Crew, where Jason works. Sounds yummy.
Oh, and Jason got a job offer yesterday, and calls from other places interested in his resume. Very positive. Things are looking up. Which is a good thing, because Christmas is coming.....

Lots of tinkering with the website this weekend. Not very many visual changes, but I changed around the way some of the scripting stuff works. Also changed the photos a bit.... I haven't used my camera very much lately, so I recycled a few of my favorite pictures from the last few months.
(The pictures are hidden on the popout tab menu below, which I haven't made Netscape compatible yet, and I'm sure breaks on a Mac. My apologies in advance.... I'm working on it.)
I'm sure everyone will be saying this soon, but I can't believe 2000 is nearly over, etc. etc.

Some general cleanup and renovation going on under the hood here at continuity. Carry on.
Drat. David Sedaris was in Scottsdale this evening, reading from Me Talk Pretty One Day. I think I was supposed to go. Alas. It's nearly time to read the Santaland Diaries again, perhaps. A bit of holiday humor before the madness begins.
Oh, what the hell. I'll just drop a few hints, just in case anyone is paying attention. We're like that, Saggitarians. December 15th, not that far away, really.
I've been desparately trying to find something "new" in the way of a web project to work on. Our company website is in desparate need of attention, but every time I start to work on it, I feel horribly guilty....like I'm neglecting all the real things that I'm supposedly paid to do. Ostensibly, the website falls inside my scope, but all my other tasks need so much more attention.
And puttering on my own site just seems a little self-indulgent.

Ugh. Will somebody please figure out who the hell is supposed to be President so we can just get on with it?
Fun story on NPR this morning about the Powerpuff Girls. Like most trendy things, I catch on just as something becomes mainstream. Mainstream, and therefore dangerously close to being passe.
I guess I'm not hip enough.

Neat. Netscape 6, although increasingly irrelevant, is kinda cool. It's nice to see a Netscape browser not mess up websites too much. Font sizes are decent. Layout is relatively accurate.
Of course, a lot of the DHTML stuff that I spent last weekend putting together doesn't work. Not surprising, since I was working off of a MSIE-focused book. And I'm not exactly sure what the "standard" way of doing things like manipulating DIV elements is supposed to be.
Netscape 6 is, though, slow. Beefy. Lots of crap installed. No, I really don't want another email program. Or spell checker, thank you. And why-oh-why should a web browser try to dictate what the system user interface looks like? I want less window chrome, not more.

I'm not very good at balancing the needs of the current project (new development) with production support. In fact, I hate doing that. One of the biggest problems I face in my current job is fending off all the requests from users for changes that need to be made now. All those now now now changes end up pushing us further and further behind.
And yet, I also hate feeling like we aren't doing something. If we can't make improvements to the stuff we already have working, we risk a drift into irrelevancy.
All this, of course, probably doesn't make much sense unless you're me, but it's cathartic nonetheless.
I think I need a hamburger.

It's been cold here the last few days. Well, I guess it is winter after all. But it's certainly a change from Phoenix's normal weather. I'm not looking forward to heading up to Idaho for Thanksgiving. It will be nice to see the family (briefly). But brrrrrrr.

Wow. I haven't been able to post from work for weeks. I finally figured out that it was a bad cookie. Damn cookies....
Ups and downs this weekend. A fun night out on Friday at AZ88. Much merriment and more than one martini. Saturday was fairly uneventful. I spent the day plowing through books trying to figure out how to make Javascript classes work. Pretty cool stuff. Sunday was a day for brunch and shopping. How droll.
Off to work.
Off to work.

For a few hours today I forgot all about the frickin' election. Nice.
I love "ah-ha!" moments.... that instant that a peculiar bit of information you stored away suddenly makes sense. I spent the better part of today learning about JavaScript classes. Whoohoo.
This is Phoenix, for god's sake. It's not supposed to be cold!

I'm reading Michael Chabon's newest, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. His prose is wordy and dense, with thick layers of descriptive history and liberal mixture of comic books and World War II imagery. I'd forgotten what a superb writer Chabon is. And I never did see Wonder Boys....
The suspense around the election is killing me. I've resigned myself to George Dubya, but I'm not gonna like it. Can you imagine, though, how nuts the Republicans will be if the election somehow gets overturned and Gore is elected? Congress will probably just skip right to the impeachment hearings and save time.
With a nearly even split in both houses of Congress, Dubya isn't going to get much done anyway. So much for tax cuts. I suppose Gore wouldn't have accomplished much either.
Hopefully the Shrub won't fuck up the Supreme Court, though.

Some additional tinkering around here. I'm working off my depression.....
Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.
I admire Ralph Nader. I appreciate the third party movement. I don't really approve of the a-constitutional Two Party System. I think the Green Party has a lot of good ideas. But...but...but...dammit Ralph, now we're stuck with Dubya the Shrub for four fuckin' years.
Can you tell I'm a little upset?

Well, it's officially open. The first Phoenix installation of In-N-Out Burger, that is. The line for the drive through (drive thru?) snaked through the parking lot, and a Scottsdale police officer was directing traffic at lunch. The line to get in the restaurant was out the door. But I only waited twenty minutes for my two cheeseburgers, fries, chocolate shake and medium 7-Up. Absolutely the best hamburger and fries on Earth....
Please, oh please, go out and vote tomorrow. For Gore. Please?
A thousand apologies to those of you using Navigator who experienced only blackness on continuity.nu in the last two days. Drat and double-drat. Web standards, anyone?

Cheap decorating tip #37: You can never have too many snapshots of your friends on display.
Did anyone get the license number of the truck that hit me?

Perhaps a new page design will quell my general apathy. It's not quite done yet, but getting there. Your feedback would be appreciated, naturally.

Very few things make me as happy as chocolate chip cookies.
I haven't posted in awhile. Exhaustion, fatigue, travel, general apathy, circuit parties. All are legitimate excuses in my book.
Be back soon.
