Off to Idaho tonight for a brief family reunion on my mother's side. Should be interesting. Then church with my father's mother, and lunch with my Dad on Monday. Then back home.

Tuesday, I get to fly to San Jose for the day to meet with a potential client for the second time. I should have stayed the night and crashed with friends for a brief San Francisco outing, but I think I'd rather be home.

Listened to Reagan's funeral this morning on NPR, and watched a bit on TV. Beautiful and sad. I was more moved by the events on Wednesday though, just on purely symbolic terms.

George W. Bush's eulogy was the most coherent, elegant speech I've heard him give. And I didn't realize Lady Thatcher's speech was recorded until it was over. I wish I would have seen it, as it was quite beautiful.

Was John Williams conducting the orchestra there? Heavy piccolo work, a bit over the top if you ask me.

Quite the hat on Lady T., wouldn't you say?

Amazing that NBC has President Ford as a color commentator for President Reagan's funeral procession.

I like Bob Dole, but he sounds like he's getting up there in years.

Mixed feelings about Reagan. Honestly, I'm caught up in the historical moment, feeling nostalgic in a vague sort of way. Reagan's presidency is a mere shadow on my early school years. Political consciousness slept soundly until I awoke with Bush da first safely in office and we childishly feared Gulf War I might sweep us all into conflict.

Others more articulate than I point out the rather obvious flaws in my memory, and egregious lapses in Reagan's presidency. The most unforgivable helped take away from us a pool of humor, talent, friendship and love that will forever be mourned. I can't disagree.

Hagiography aside, a moment of history and sadness on myriad levels. Pass the jellybeans.
