Hash House a Go Go is a San Diego institution which serves up obscenely large portions of food. We're talking trashcan lids full of fried potatoes, eggs, biscuits, gravy, etc. etc. etc. One breakfast arrived on a platter that would have easily held enough pasta for four. The (butterscotch) pancake we ordered for the table was a good 12 inches in diameter.

We loved it, and they pack the place daily.

The Irish and English think our very American affinity for gigantic portions is wasteful and excessive. I can't disagree. I would have been satisfied with half the food plonked in front of me at Hash House, but it was tasty nonetheless.

The stocky, babyfaced bartender didn't hurt either.
