Weekend
This is Lucy. She's a 3 month old Boston Terrier. We went shopping for shirts yesterday. And, on a whim, decided to stop into the pet store. We've been talking about getting another dog for awhile, so it wasn't a total impulse purchase. But the "aw cute" factor definitely won us over yesterday.
I wasn't counting on housetraining and all the other fun involved with a puppy. This could get interesting.
Oscar, however, is having none of it. Hopefully he'll warm up to her soon.

San Francisco
Jason turned another year older this month. We were meant to be in San Francisco for a long weekend of fun and (perhaps) frolicking.
However, he came down with something nasty that kept him in bed most of the time. We were house-sitting for the weekend, but we ended up just staying in: Jason in bed while I watched the Food Network. Joy.
The birthday dinner was planned forZinc Bistro Zuni Cafe [Sorry, wrong city. --Ed.] with a couple of longtime SF friends. Jason wasn't feeling up to it, so I left him and went alone. Dinner was superb, as usual, with lots of wine and glasses of Stella.
After dessert and Calvados, we adjourned to the Clift Hotel for a few drinks in the Redwood Room. The Redwood Room is stunning, all wood and dark club chairs and DJ music. Scattered on the walls are flat-panel televisions hung like picture frames. They show these strange, melancholy portraits that move just slightly while you aren't watching. The eyes blink, or the hands move, or a man turns to the left. It's all rather surreal.

Restaurants
Why don't all restaurants have websites? I should be able to punch the name of a restaurant into Google and hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" and get right to the restaurant's homepage. For some reason it runs about 50/50 whether the restaurant has a website at all. Even big names that you would expect to have brilliant websites listing menus and smiling photos of the chef... zip, nada, nothing. Or some lame-o Citysearch listing. I don't get it.

Long Downhill Slide
Poof. All of a sudden the days start getting longer and the sun comes up at ungodly hours again. I have a bad feeling about this summer. It's going to be long and hot and unbearable, surely.
Nevermind that it is overcast and windy today.
Pride last weekend. I skipped most of it, as usual. Movies in the park Friday night to kick the weekend off. They inflate a huge drive-in movie screen at the edge of the lake and allow you to picnic on the grass. The Birdcage is campy and funny and probably full of offensive stereotypes, but fun. That was it for my pride festivities, except for brunch on Sunday. A couple of friends have just moved into a new house: all glass and clean lines and mature plants. It looks like it belongs in Florida rather than Arizona. Very nice, and I'm jealous of all their open space. Our next house should be more loft-like, at least in the public spaces.
