Pubbing

Last night we stopped in at Matt's new bar, The Roosevelt (3rd Street at McKinley). Matt of Matt's Big Breakfast, the man of locally sourced, excellent food and good taste.

The bar is a renovated 1900's house in the Roosevelt neighborhood. It's spare inside, remodeled into a fairly modern space for an older home. The woodwork is beautifully done, and the fireplace in the front room has been covered in dark metal and wood with candles to throw a bit of light. There are a few tables and groupings of chairs scattered through the space... Too few, I think, as it makes the space feel a bit cold. Hopefully when the place fills up it will feel more cozy.

The bar is well stocked, with lots of interesting regional and microbrew beers and what looks to be a decent wine list. (Not really a wine drinker, so I'll leave that to others to decide.) On staff are a few repeats from Matt's Big Breakfast, and they are a friendly lot.

But the food. Oh, the food.... Just a snack menu, but you could snack all night on perfect grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, baked beans and franks, stacked sandwiches, nuts, etc. etc. All are obsessively local and/or made from products from quality purveyors, many of whom are also featured on Matt's breakfast menu. Delicious. We'll be going back.
